Begin with an honest picture.

A child who is happy playing in shallow water may still be new to structured lessons. Another may have previous lessons but feel unsure in a different pool. Tell the coach about that experience, without comparing your child with other swimmers.

What to ask before a first lesson.

Ask about the current beginner groups and a suitable first assessment. Share your child’s age, comfort in the water and any previous lessons, so the coach can discuss the teaching approach, class size and individual support.

  • Is a beginner group or individual assessment available?
  • How are confidence and ability used to place a child?
  • What language will the coach use?
  • What happens if the first group is not a good fit?

Make the first visit predictable.

Confirm the venue, arrival time, kit list and changing arrangements. Ask whether a parent can watch and how handover works. Clear practical information helps a family arrive ready for the session, without making assumptions about the pool.

Progress has more than one shape.

Early goals can be discussed in terms of comfort and participation as well as swimming technique. The coach should advise on an appropriate starting point. No fixed number of lessons or guaranteed outcome is advertised here; the next step is a conversation about your child.

Your questions

Can a child who cannot swim join?

Families with children who are new to swimming can enquire about a suitable starting point. Tell us your child’s age range and comfort in the water, and ask about the current beginner groups or first assessment before arranging a visit.

What ages can join the swimming club?

MXZZ works with children and youth swimmers. Share your child’s age range, swimming experience and confidence in the water so the coach can advise on an age-appropriate group and confirm current entry requirements.

How do we arrange a first assessment or trial?

Email [email protected] or contact coach Xu Danlu on Xiaohongshu. Include your child’s age range, experience, preferred days and teaching language. We will discuss a suitable next step; the session, any charge and your place are confirmed directly with the club.

What should we bring to a first session?

Ask the coach for the venue’s kit list. A swimsuit, cap, goggles, towel and a change of clothes are useful items to discuss. Confirm any pool-entry requirements, equipment rules and parent access before the visit.

Let’s talk about your child.

English teaching is available at our Qingpu location. Tell us your child’s experience and what they would like to work towards.
