What should we discuss for each age band?
| Age | Tell the coach | Confirm before booking |
|---|---|---|
| 3–5 years | Previous water experience, comfort entering the pool and any experience following lesson instructions. | Whether this age is accepted in a current group, the first-session format and parent involvement. |
| 6–8 years | Previous lessons, water confidence, strokes tried and whether the child can swim independently. | Which starting group fits, how ability is assessed and the class size. |
| 9+ years | Current strokes, usual training, goals and race experience if relevant; older beginners should say they are beginners. | Whether a beginner, technique or competition-focused group is appropriate and currently available. |
Does age alone determine a swimming level?
Age does not describe a child’s swimming experience. Two children of the same age may need different starting points. Give the coach a clear description of what your child currently does in the water, then confirm how MXZZ assesses placement and reviews progress.
Which learning goals can we discuss?
You can enquire about confidence and learning to swim, improving stroke technique, or developing towards competition. The club archive documents youth training and racing. The right next step and current group availability must be confirmed for your child.
Are there published pass marks for moving up?
No confirmed MXZZ distance, time or stroke checklist has been supplied for promotion between groups. Ask the assigned coach for the current assessment criteria, feedback process and review points. Do not use a generic age chart as an entry guarantee.
A few more questions
Can a 3-year-old join MXZZ?
Acceptance of a 3-year-old has not been confirmed on this website. Ask the club about the current minimum age, group availability and parent involvement before booking.
Can a child aged 9 or above enquire as a beginner?
Yes, families can enquire. Explain that your child is a beginner and ask about an age-appropriate starting group; a suitable place is subject to the club’s confirmation.
Is competition required for every child?
Competition is documented in the club journal, but discuss your child’s own goals. Ask about a suitable non-competitive or development group and its availability.
